Krowle vary slightly in appearance depending on the region they are from. Most have a dull blue coat, but gray pelts are also fairly common. Black and white krowle are also possible, although not often seen.
The coats themselves are comprised of two layers; the undercoat is down-like and very insulating, while the guard hairs are what give the creature its color. This makes the fur dense and incredibly soft.
Horns and thick manes are only present on males, although females usually have a large tuft of fur on the nape of their neck. Manes, like pelts, vary in color, but are always darker than the primary fur color. Horns also vary slightly in pigmentation, but are usually brown. They are mostly short and stunted, one being situated above each eye, curving inwards.
Their long and powerful tail provides excellent balance, making them capable climbers and aiding in sharp turns while sprinting. It is often seen used in physical attacks, leaving devastating injuries with a square hit.
The species' build is generally strong and stocky, with males usually weighing in at 350 lbs and females at 290 lbs. The average shoulder height for males is 3'6", 2'8" for females, and typical length (not including tail) is 6'2" in males, with females averaging 5'2".
Krowle are an incredibly intelligent species; they display cognitive and reasoning abilities comparable to those of humans and complex social relations which closely mirror our own. While they possess their own dialect, they are capable of human speech, a practice which is becoming more widespread as they have an increasing amount of contact with humans.
MAGICK
The krowle species has a natural proclivity towards magick wielding. That isn't to say all of this breed do practice magick, however, as it takes much practice and time to hone their skills. When magickal energy is active, the user's eyes will glow yellow. Generally speaking, the stronger the glow, the more power is being released. It has been known for advanced, upper level users' eyes to turn from yellow to orange and even to red from the intensity of the magicks they have released.
In rare cases, a krowle will appear to have a constant glow to its eyes. This is because there is a continuous amount of energy being released, usually in the form of a protection spell. This is unusual, however, as it puts a constant drain on the powers, making stronger magick difficult. If cornered, such individuals will usually resort to physical attacks for defense.
Depending on their ancestry, different krowle will be more adept at different magicks. All are strong in the use of primary spells (defense and attack), but the effectiveness of secondary spells such as healing and locating vary. This can be overcome, to a degree, with training and practice, but there will almost always be a noticeable gap between those that are predisposed and those that are not.
Awesome, I don't think I've seen you make many in-depth references like this in the time I've known you. I really like the individual faces you did, they're very expressive. I like to think you've improved a lot over the summer so far : D
Thanks! There are a bunch of other face sketches, but I weeded out the bad ones XD And I don't usually stick with characters long enough to get as far as making references, unfortunately. But Shunt's fun to draw.
YUS. xD I just said that because puff asked that one night why he has yellow eyes, and you said it was because red eye would look demonic or something like that. xD
